Dedicating yourself is hard...sometimes
Some people manage to stay focused and you can see this dedication shine through when they play gigs, create Youtube videos or generally just play. We all have this ability to dedicate ourselves to something bigger and higher than ourselves whether it's music, business or just growing as an individual.
We will all struggle to stay motivated and we will all have less productive days for no reason other than we can't find the zone. That's normal...
Don't be afraid of 'Failing', afraid of trying again what didn't work yesterday. Reputation and dedication is the key to success, no matter what it is. The longer you practice or perform a task over and over again, the quicker and easier it will become.
Dedication, motivation and reputation are the things that matter most. Even if we fail several times over, we will get there in the end, if we don't give up.
Following in someone's footsteps will always cast a wide shadow
Some people manage to break free of this overcasting shadow but when you're following in the footsteps of others, (whether it's by choice or by name - being born into a well respected family), this will always create expectations.
By carving your own path by applying past experiences and other people's tips, advice and experiences (taken with a pinch of salt), you can create your own foundation and create your own shadow.
Don't be afraid or scared to follow the path less travelled by your peers or friends. Taking calculated risks is how careers are born from jobs and hobbies that people believe can't be.
You are your own foe, friend, shadow and destiny. Pick which one you want to be most.
Before 2016 my musical equipment had been the same for 6/7 years at least. For 2016 it's all changed.
I'm now using an Ibanez SR605, A Warwick Jazzman Streamer and a newly purchased Squier Stratocaster. I'm going to be doing a lot of recording and Youtube videos soon featuring these instruments so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Until then, why not sign up to my mailing list and enjoy some FREE lesson material.

It's finally happened. Teach Me Music Online has gone global. I had my first Guitar student via Skype who just happens to live in New York, USA.
This is a great step forward in the global reach of music tuition. By using Skype, it's so easy to teach anyone, anywhere at any time.
It was a pleasure to teach open chords and Guitar tunings to someone the other side of the planet.

A blog for musicians?
Can such a thing exist?
I'm sure it already does in many different formats but I've started my own blog offering advice, tips, techniques, networking assistance and much much more.
Forget lengthy blogs with zero information. Forget blogs that promise quick and easy success methods. This blog is designed for musicians who want assistance or advice on various subjects and topics that can help in their every day life as a musician or with their potential career in the music industry.
Quick and simple but filled with loads of information that's suitable for musicians. Learn how to market yourself while avoiding common mistakes. Don't waste your valuable time.
Sleeping in Sound is all you need to help your musical side sleep at night.
2015 has been a very up and down year. I've seen and done so much - luckily its been more good than bad.
I managed to gig with The Osmonds, which was just incredible and I'm so thankful that I got the opportunity and didn't waste it. It was quite stressful but great practice in the grand scheme of things.
The business I co-own has gone from strength to strength this year and I'm grateful to the team of people we have working with us. It's been a long and hard path but it's all worth it when you know people and students value your services and knowledge. The Christmas solely from my students was just overwhelming.
I got myself featured on David Young and The Midnight Chorus' new album playing Bass Guitar for the entire album. I also supported the amazing Sex Pissed Dolls at The River Rooms in Stourbridge.
Finally a massive thank you to The Smooth Criminals as it's been a massive honour to play with some of the best and kind musicians around. All the weddings, birthdays, conferences and parties have been so much fun and it's kept my gigging calendar full all year.
Director, Bassist, Music tutor and Columnist. Keep up to date with everything here.
